媒体在国内外社会发展与变革过程中扮演着重要的信息传播中介作用,深刻影响并塑造着人类的社交、文化、政治、经济、娱乐和日常生活。本课程系统梳理媒体与社会的历史变革与新媒体平台现状,帮助学生熟悉传播、信息与社会学相关理论基础,引导学生思考媒体与社会研究领域的前沿问题。

课程具体内容如下:

1. 理解文字、声音与视频媒体的历史变革,从技术创新、内容生产、组织形式、公众参与等不同维度思考历史上媒体与社会复杂的交互关系;

2. 厘清不同新媒体平台对社会生活的影响,分析新媒体在内容过滤与把关、社会网络形成与构建、经济生活与就业、文化创意与娱乐等领域影响; 

3. 分析当前媒体与社会研究不同领域的重要议题,认识不同社会学科研究媒体与社会的视角差异,关注媒体与社会研究前沿领域的未来。

英文简介与目标 Course introduction and learning objectives [EN]:

Media play important roles in mediating information and communication processes in social development and social changes. They have profoundly shaped the social, cultural, political, economic, and entertainment aspects of human behaviours. The course is rooted based on fundamental theories in communication, information, and sociology. It systematically overviews the historical changes and current relationships between media and society. The course will focus specifically on the interactions between media and society in the information society. The course objectives include:

1. To understand the production, organization, public participation of text-, voice-, and video-formatted media, and familiarise students with the technology innovation, content production, organisation structure, public participation, social implication of different forms of media;

2. To clarify how different types of new media platforms have yielded various impacts on the society, and systematically analyse the influence of new media in content filtering and gatekeeping, forming and maintaining social networks, stimulating economic activities and employment, encouraging cultural trends and entertainment; 

4. To analyse key issues in the frontiers of research in media and society and to grasp important areas in the study of media and society
